Michael Berens, M.S., Ph.D., is the Director of Research and Knowledge Resources
for the American Society of Interior Designers. In that capacity, he directs the Society’s publications, knowledge generation and management activities, and research initiatives. A writer, editor and educator, he has delivered presentations at national and regional conferences and training events on various research studies, communications strategy, knowledge management, and effective use of computers-based technologies.
Dr. Berens has more than 20 years’ experience in association management in a variety of capacities including communications, print and electronic publications, volunteer management, knowledge and research management, staff development and training, strategic planning and scenario development, meeting facilitation and group dynamics, organizational development, and executive management. He also has more than 10 years’ experience as an adjunct faculty member at several colleges and universities. He holds a Ph.D. in English from UCLA and an M.S. in Organizational Development and Knowledge Management from George Mason University, as well as a Certificate in Executive Management from the UCLA Graduate School of Management and a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Learning Institute for Nonprofit Organizations.
Professional memberships include the American Society of Association Executives, the Society of National Association Publications, and the Chesapeake Bay Organizational Development Network.
