Topic: The Best of Times, The Worst of Times: Coaching for Resilience

Facilitator: Kevin Nourse, PhD, PCC (bio)

Organizations today are faced with unprecedented adversity, complexity and chaos based on trends ranging from global climate change to a deeply systemic financial downturn. These forces are threatening the very existence of many organizations and as such call for a greater need to quickly change and adapt. For some leaders, these challenges represent exciting opportunities for growth, while others view the same situations more pessimistically. In order to function well in the midst of this adversity, organizations are beginning to recognize the need to focus more intentionally on the capacity of their managers to maintain their resilience despite adversity. Recent research has distinguished between bouncing back from adversity (resilience) and growing from adversity (thriving). This session will explore critical concepts and practices that coaches can use to build their own ability to thrive as well as support their clients.
