Abigail Toner

Abigail is an OD professional with over 23 years of experience in the areas of human capital and organization development (OD) consulting. She started her career in boutique and leading consulting firms in the DC area -- focused on private industry and the US Federal government in both civilian and military agencies.

Pursuing her love for travel and adventure, she made her way to Cairo, Egypt in 2011, where she discovered the art of OD and coaching. She built her individual and group coaching capabilities through engagements with large and small Egyptian and multinational corporations during the Arab Spring and subsequent Egyptian revolutions.

In addition to her professional work in Egypt and other parts of the Middle East, she started a Facebook group for women to help drive more informed choices regarding pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. This group was intended to empower women beyond social norms to defer to medical professionals and family without question, pushing for self-advocacy. This group now has over 30,000 members and has helped women seek out support and has helped with children’s safety and education.

Upon her return to the US in 2016, Abigail took on her first internal OD role at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, building deeper OD muscle in facilitation and group dynamics as well as in learning curriculum design.. In 2018, she joined Nestle USA (NUSA), and returned to Northern VA, as an OD manager during a time of incredible culture and structural change. In order to make the largest impact Abigail enrolled in the Gestalt Organization and Systems Development (GOSD) certification program which she completed in January 2020.

In February 2020, Abigail took on the dual role of leading NUSA’s Talent and Performance Management team and leading an expanded OD team as a new Talent Center of Excellence formed. She took on this role to learn how to influence a system from within an organization vs through the more externally viewed OD consultant role. In this added role, Abigail drove the annual talent and performance cycle, designed high potential development programs and co-facilitated Executive succession summits.

In July 2021, Abigail moved to Bohler, a 30-year old land development consulting firm and private partnership, headquartered in Herndon, VA as Director of Organization Development. There, she transitioned a Learning and Development team into what is now known as Organization and Talent Development. She is currently a Senior Director heading up large scale change initiatives related to leadership development, performance management, organization design and career pathing. Her career goal for this transition was supporting organization-wide system change based on Bohler’s Strategic Plan and future growth goals.

Throughout her career, Abigail has consulted with individuals ranging from entry level employees to C-suite leaders and their teams across industries, functions, countries and cultures. Her biggest driver is helping individuals, teams and organizations clear a path towards greater performance and success.

Abigail has an MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from George Mason University and a BA in Psychology and Management & Society from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is an ICF ACC certified coach and continues to grow in her OD competence through curiosity and shared learning.
