Session"Mindful Multiculturalism: A Pathway to Inclusive Cultures and Workplace Well-Being"

In a time of increasing complexity, cultural polarization, and AI-driven change, OD practitioners are being called to not only drive transformation but also model the inclusive, community-oriented behaviors they hope to foster. This session introduces “mindful multiculturalism,” an integrative approach that combines cultural intelligence (CQ) development with mindfulness practices to promote workplace well-being, psychological safety, and authentic inclusion.

Drawing from a real-world case study based in the Washington, DC region, we will explore a facilitation and training initiative designed to support an organization’s cultural transformation. The program incorporated CQ assessment (Short Form Cultural Intelligence Scale), reflective dialogue, and experiential learning to cultivate greater awareness, acceptance, and behavioral flexibility among employees. Participants will engage with key components of the program and examine the link between mindful self-awareness, reduced bias, and inclusive behavior change. The session will also briefly touch on the evolving role of generative AI in OD work, highlighting its potential impact on psychological safety and cultural dynamics.
