Topic: Powerfully Agile Thinking:  In-FORM-ation, Trans-FORM-ation and What It Takes to Change the FORM

Facilitator:  Loretta Hobbs PhD
Ever meet someone whose way of thinking seems so different from your own?  Ever wonder how people consistently hold 'frames of reference' and 'points or view' on different subjects that come from a certain way of thinking?  Ever wonder what it would take for someone to shift to a different 'frame of reference' or 'point of view?'  What would it take for me?
How can the OD practitioner or consultant assist people in a system to (1) break through intransigence and tunnel vision, (2) be mindful that there is likely more to know than one 'point of view', (3) appreciate variety of thought on any given subject, (4) discuss and engage others with more depth, understanding, and regard for the values that may underlie a different way of thinking?
OD practitioners and consultants have exceptional tools and theories to impact such cases. We just have to know that it takes more than new information to create a transformation.  It takes a shift in the FORM.
Loretta Hobbs has worked with leaders and managers in various kinds of organizations for 30 years, and has served as both.  She is a Senior Organization Development Practitioner at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.  She began working with military medicine in 2006 to assist with cultural integration during the historic process of Base Realignment and Closure of two flagship medical facilities.  She co-authored an article about the integration period between 2005-2011 entitled “Walter Reed Bethesda – Much More Than Changing Names”, published in the OD Practitioner Journal, Summer 2012.
Loretta works a great deal with senior leaders and she has helped design and facilitate strategic planning efforts.  She coordinates WR’s strategic dialogues such as its Town Halls and Leadership Forums, as well as the One Team initiative between WRNMMC and FBCH.  She works with groups at all levels of the organization towards teambuilding, conflict resolution, and customized workplace solutions.  She has an MS in Organizational Development from the AU/NTL Program and a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Graduate University.  Her doctoral dissertation work was about adults in organizational settings, “A Study of the Impact of Nonphysical Aggression in U.S. Organizations: A Contribution to the Taxonomy of Nonphysical Aggression”.
