Topic: Influencing Change in Complex Times

Description: Today’s International environment is inherently uncertain, unpredictable and changing at an accelerated pace. How can we navigate this complexity and have a lasting impact with development initiatives? Join us for an exploration about the nature of complexity and lessons from Complexity Science that can inform our approaches to change.

Jill Hinson is an international business leader with 20 years combined experience in organization development and marketing. Results-driven consultant with skills in conceptualizing, developing and managing organization and culture change initiatives, leadership development programs, organization assessments and team effectiveness. Innovative thinker, driven to make a positive impact, applying complexity science research and strength based methodologies to improve complex organizational issues. Know for partnering-and coaching C-level executives to improve personal effectiveness and senior team alignment.

Jill is cofounder and managing partner of ChangeFusion, specializing in accelerating change, developing leaders and building organizational effectiveness. Previously, Jill was an internal Organization Development Director in the global financial services industry where she has held enterprise-wide Organization Development Leadership role as well as directly supporting internal clients including IT/Operations division and Commercial divisions.

Key results included developing and executing leadership development programs, leading cultural change initiatives, on-boarding senior managers, team development and coaching. Responsibilities included: Change Strategy & Facilitation Engagement Survey, Culture & Values Change & Assessment Leadership Development, Coaching & 360-Degree Leadership Assessment, Performance Management Process, Team Effectiveness Jill held Marketing leadership positions at Nordstrom, focusing on sales promotion, advertising, new store openings, employee on-boarding/recognition and change initiatives.

Jill holds Masters Degree in Organization Development from American University/NTL and an undergraduate Bachelor of Business/Marketing degree from James Madison University. Jill has spoken at several conferences presenting on Employee Engagement and is a member of OD Network. She is also a member of the Human Systems Dynamics Institute and Associate Member of NTL.

David Osborne is a successful business leader and organization development consultant with a passion for collaborating to lead positive change. He brings leadership development and organization change experience combined with expertise in complexity and human system dynamics. His strength involves working with leaders to develop to their full potential and define change strategies that engage their organization to accelerate change and deliver results. David has experience in a diverse range of industries & sectors in countries around the world.

As a leader at Proctor and Gamble, David led a $200 million consumer goods business through a global sales re-­‐organization, and culture change initiatives that resulted in strengthening customer relationships and double digit business growth. He also has experience in the energy sector with N. S. Power, where he leveraged his change leadership skills to successfully create a new business-­‐to-­‐business customer relationship management strategy & organization that transformed customer relationships positively.

David is a Senior Faculty member for NTL programs and a member of the NTL Organization Development Community of Practice. Previously, he held the position of Vice President of NTL Institute’s Customized Services Group, providing leadership development and organization change capacity building programs to organizations globally. David designs and facilitates several NTL leadership development programs, including: Human Interactions Lab Coaching for Engagement & Performance Leading Change Strategically Collaborating as A Global Team Player Leading with Courage & Passion Diagnosing Organizations with Impact Matrix Mgt. in a Virtual Environment Leadership & the Power of Self Knowledge

David holds a Masters degree in Organization Development from American University in Washington D.C. and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax N.S. He also holds a Certification in Human Systems Dynamics from the Human Systems Dynamics Institute and is certified in values mapping using L J Map Values Mapping.

SIG Description: The OD/ICD SIG is a forum for collective learning and exchange among professionals who, in their own work, support development and positive change through collaborative partnerships in the arenas of Organization Development (OD), International Development (ID), and Community Development (CD). The SIG is a multi-directional conversation among participants with diverse worldviews, theories of practice, and partnerships; and a common desire to create positive, sustainable change through trusting, transparent, accountable, and powerful collaborations and organizations. Participants are aware of the challenges and opportunities inherent in issues facing the world (e.g., material poverty, violent conflict, climate change, social injustice, and more).

The SIG is a multi-directional conversation between diverse participants, and draws on presenters from within and without the participant base, prioritizing presentations with experiential components. Because participants lead busy lives, the participant base will be different in each meeting, creating a dynamic and evolving community. 

Who would benefit from attending: Practitioners, change agents, leaders, social entrepreneurs, policy analysts, grassroots activists, and partners in the arenas of International Development, Organization Development, and Community Development. These may include representatives of any sector (e.g., government, international institutions, philanthropy, civil society, academe, corporations, social entrepreneurs, etc.).
