Topic: Attracting Great Mentors

Facilitator: Judith A. Vogel | judy@vogelglaser.com
Judith A. Vogel, MLA is a partner in Vogel / Glaser & Associates, Inc. located in Columbia, MD. She is an educator and business woman who has been director of OD and HRD for several major corporations, adjunct faculty in university OD programs, and a consultant since 1972.

She partners with organizations to create learning environments for leaders and members that support productivity through collaboration. She specializes in culture change, executive coaching, team development and assisting HR staffs to become skilled internal consultants and business partners.

Judy is a member and trainer in NTL Institute. For many years she has been a member and presenter at OD Network and Chesapeake Bay ODN, where she was also President and, for several years, on the Board. She is a Reviewer for the OD Network’s publication, OD Practitioner. Judy received her Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University. She can be reached at www.vogelglaser.com.

Based on Judy’s recent original research with a colleague, this session will explore how some individuals attract powerful informal mentoring support from accomplished people. After reflecting on our own experiences, we will discuss the findings from 24 interviews and the Model of Seven Strategies that resulted from the analysis. We will explore the unique attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that led to growth and advancement for the mentees and the long-term relationships between mentor and mentee that often resulted. Further, we will discuss applications to our work with individual clients and their organizations and consider possible implications for working with identity groups.

Access will be provided to an electronic copy of the resulting article – “Attracting Great Mentors: Seven Strategies to Cultivate” -- that was published in July, 2011 in the OD Practitioner.
