Professional Presence: Showing Up When We're Distracted, Exhausted, and Uncertain Ourselves

As OD practitioners, we know how we show up is crucial to our work. We also know that, much like our clients, we too are living in a time of great turmoil and opportunity. I'm curious when the last time we explored together how these big changes affect us as a community.

While 76% of employees, (that's 3/4), are experiencing workplace burnout at least some of the time, how is our role as consultants who hold space for that burnout, leading to a feeling of transference (Gallup, 2023)?

In what ways does our own Use of Self feel particularly challenged currently and how can reconnecting to our own sense of individual and collective presence reground us?

In this session we will:

  • Reexamine how presence is developed.
  • Experiment with "presence of body" through the use of feedback in groups.
  • Discuss the opportunities and challenges of presence and "presentness" in various environments, especially virtual as opposed to others.
