I Bet My Holiday Cultural Tradition Is Stranger Than Yours

The holiday season opens the door for us to explore our cultural diversity through bridges, connecting us with people from all walks of life. Do you look for similarities to share between holiday traditions or seek out unique differences in other cultures to better understand our friends around the globe?

The Intercultural Development Continuum is a developmental model made up of five orientations toward cultural differences and similarities. It is a culture-general model, which means that it can be applied to any and all cultural groups. As individuals and groups move along the continuum, their capacity to experience cultural similarities and differences with more complexity increases.

Denise Marques will walk participants through the 5 stops along the Continuum and provide some context for each stop, tying them to the holiday season so they can think about where they might fall on the continuum. Once you know your starting point, you can begin to consider opportunities for growth based on your own self-development goals.

Presenter:  Denise Marques

Denise spent 31 years working in Federal Service before launching her own leadership coaching and facilitation business. While her focus for many years was on financial management, her lengthy career provided opportunities to work in professional development through supervising, as well as serving as a career development officer.

She also managed and taught a rigorous leadership course for 2 years where she attained certifications in a myriad of self-assessment tools to include DiSC, Conflict Dynamics Profile, Change Style Management, Benchmarks 360, and the Intercultural Development Inventory. This assignment is where Denise found her passion to enable others to showcase their strengths while also discovering their areas of development to improve where they want to focus. She became a certified leadership coach and has logged over 100 coaching hours with numerous clients.
