Topic: Navigating Personal and Professional Change with Robust Support Systems

Facilitators: Kimberley Jutze & Sarah Brooks

Program:

As OD professionals, we know that change processes are more likely to succeed when there is a support system in place.  Yet, how often do we look at the support systems in our own life?

This interactive session will explore the role of support systems in contributing to successful change efforts.  Through a mix of small and large group discussion, participants will learn what an effective support system is, why it’s important to the practice of OD, what stops us (and our clients) from reaching out for help, and a process for putting them in place at the individual and organizational levels.  The complexities of developing support systems will be viewed through the lens of social change, which exemplifies the kinds of challenges faced in other types of change work, such as an entrenched problem, resistance to change, and potential for widespread impact.

As change leaders, where success is often measured in terms of the sustainability of interventions, it’s important to begin with the end in mind when it comes to designing and executing change processes in collaboration with the people who are directly impacted by them.  Beyond mobilizing the human and other resources needed to accomplish the change effort, we also need to find ways to take care of ourselves.

Come prepared to share your views on work-life balance, the challenge of asking for help when others rely on us to provide support, and good practices.
